Incorporated as a California Benefit Corporation, the mission of PRLS is to promote and grow the reuse and repurposing of reclaimed lumber and materials from the built environment, leading to a reduction in C&D waste and carbon emissions.
The founders of PRLS bring their varied decades of experience in the deconstruction and reuse industry to offer this rare stock of clear heart redwood for construction, designers, architects, furniture makers and beyond.
Coopered into massive fermentation tanks, these ancient boards held gallons of Cabernet, Zinfandel, and Pinot soaking up tannins, minerals, and the memory of every harvest season.
These tanks are rare, and the retirement of a major winery production house is additionally rare. This is a project of epic proportion, and potentially the largest decommissioning of redwood tanks in California history. The decommissioning of these 137 tanks will yield half a million board feet of clear heart redwood staves, heads and floors. We recover, mill, and restore these irreplaceable redwood staves, giving them a second life as flooring, paneling, furniture, and architectural millwork.
The result is wood unlike anything you can buy new.
Naturally stabilized by age. Subtly colored by wine. Seasoned indoors for over half a century. Impossibly tight-grained from centuries of slow growth. Every board is a piece of California history and a choice for a more sustainable future.
